Clear/Reset varRecord

Hi, 

I have built a Power App that doesn't include an edit form but utilizes a gallery to display records from SharePoint on the first page. Once the data is entered into the standalone fields on the second page, I am using the Patch function to save the data back to a SharePoint list and navigating them to a success screen.  From there I am sending users back to the gallery screen. The issue I am having is when I try to create a new record or update an existing record the old data is displaying.  Is there a way to clear the data from varRecord after the Patch function runs and they click the "New Record" button? Thank you for any help.

Hi,

If you're using form control, then you can use function ResetForm(FormName)

You can also set the form mode property of your form based on whether the user has clicked edit icon or not.

on click of edit icon set a variable - Set(formMode, "Edit")

on click of create record icon you can set this variable to "New"

On Form's Mode property you can add - If(formMode="New", FormMode.New, If(formMode="Edit", FormMode.Edit, FormMode.View))

You would be best to use a Form!!  This would solve a lot of problems and cut your work dramatically!  Plus, you mention that after the patch you are navigating to a success screen...was it really a success??  This is something the form would bring to you without you having to build the formulas for it.

That aside...what are all of your Default properties based on in your hand-built form?  The variable?  If so, then you simply need to blank out (set to blank) that variable.

I would have preferred to go with a Form but unfortunately it wouldn't have been able to meet all the customer needs, so I had to go with the hand-built form. Currently when a "New" record is started from the gallery screen it is setting varRecord for each field "Set(varRecord, Blank()); Navigate(Screen1)" . Each of the fields has a default property of varRecord.(Sharepoint field).  If I blank them out, I am not sure how I would be able to pull the data back in if/when a user goes in to edit an existing record.  Hopefully I'm explaining it clearly.  I appreciate your and @NandiniBhagya20 help.

@RandyHayes  Also, I have confirmed the data is saving correctly to SharePoint using the patch so I'm pretty confident it is having success. I am also able to pull the data back in to edit the record but after "updating" the data with Patch a second time. I am unable to start a new record

Yes, so don't discount using a Form...even if you don't use the form interface, you can still use a form to control the data.  Keep it in mind in the future as it will make things much simpler.

As for your scenario...you have what you need.  You are setting the variable to blank for new records.  If you want to pull it back in, then you just need to set it to a record.

So from your Gallery, you would just set the Variable to ThisItem and navigate.  Ex: Set(varRecord, ThisItem); Navigate(Screen1)

Normally, with a form, I would suggest then that in your OnSuccess action, you then set the variable to the submitted record.  Set(varRecord, Self.LastSubmit)  But, since you are not using the form, you will need to do this as part of your Patch.

Ex.  Set(varRecord, Patch(yourList, yourrecord))

Sucess for that record...sure.  But what about every time you Patch?  Will it never have an error?  Will the network always be 100%  Will the SharePoint service always respond 100%.  This is where the value of the error handling in the form is superior!

I'm a bit late to the party - but it might help someone else.
To clear all values from varRecord set it to the defaults of the datasource. eg:  Set(varRecord, Defaults(SharePointListName))
