Help with patching combo boxes

Hello! I am attempting something that I am not entirely sure is possible.

I have two combo boxes I would like to patch. I am gathering the items by using two sharepoint lists. These combo boxes are to get a job number/name, and a cost code. Because both lists need to be able to easily be added to, I am trying to avoid putting the different choices in powerapps and instead letting them be chosen from the list in sharepoint. 

I want to patch the choice that is selected, and I have tried watching videos that are reliable (Shane Young mainly) but none of their methods are working and I believe its because I have a text column feeding to a choice box. tl;dr, how do I patch a text selected in a combo box? 

Here is my current patch, and it shows no errors, however it is leaving two of the columns blank (The two associated with the comboboxes.

ActivityDateTime: Text(Now(), DateTimeFormat.ShortDate),
JobNumber: DDJobSite_2, //this is the Job Number & Name combobox

);

  And here is what my items look like for both combo boxes (both in the items category)
First the job #/Name

Sort('Master Job Tracker', JobNumAndName, SortOrder.Ascending)

And the cost code

What you are trying to do is totally possible, but I need to understand a little more about what you are trying to do... Is it that you are:

• attempting to patch the selected value from each of these comboboxes to a text (or lookup) field in SharePoint,
• attempting to populate the text from a SharePoint field to the selected value for each of these comboboxes,
• attempting to patch an entire record value as text (or a lookup) to the SharePoint field,
• or something else...?

once I have a better idea of what you are trying to do, then I can point you to the appropriate setup for what you want to happen.

Hi @CodyO,

I think your mistake is a simple one.

If "DDJobSite_2" is the name of your Job Number/Name combobox, then your code example is saying "for the value of the JobNumber field, here, have a combobox". You are passing in the entire control, not its contents.

I am assuming TimeTracker is an SP list. Then what you actually need to pass for the value is either going to be 

• if "JobNumber" field in TimeTracker is a lookup field to the 'Master Job Tracker' list, then pass it the whole selected record with this format

JobNumber: {Id: DDJobSite_2.Selected.ID, Value: DDJobSite_2.Selected.JobNumAndName}

or

• if "JobNumber" field in TimeTracker just holds the text, then just pass it the particular value you want to store, which might be

DDJobSite_2.Selected.JobNumAndName

The key to your issue is the column type of the JobNumber and CostCode in your TimeTracker list.

I guess they are both LookUp columns, right?

If they are both LookUp columns in your TimeTracker list, you need to modify your formula as below:

Thank you all for your swift responses! I was away for the weekend, and am back at it today.

To clarify, both the job num/name, and cost codes columns are currently single line of text. I tried citdevpros solutions and couldn't get them working correctly (likely my own user error lol). I am more than happy to change column types if that would help. I initially had them as choice columns, but I think that was overcomplicating the process.

Update from my last message, the solution provided at the bottom of @citdevpros response worked! At first it was showing the "iconvertible" error, but then it started working properly!
