Implementing For loop in collection

Hi guys,

•   I have initialized two collections. 
  •  from my sharepoint list field i have fetched comments to my first collection using:
        ClearCollect(Collection1,Split(DataCardValue5.Text,"@#"));
         where my datacardvalue is something like this: 
    Approver1@# Approve@#ok Approved@#;Approver2@# Approve@#okay@#;Approver3@# Reject;@#sorry
    
  • Collection1 will be like:
    
      Collection1
       Approver1
        Approve
      ok approved
       Approver2
        Approve
          okay
        Approver3
          Reject
           Sorry
  • My second collection consists of 3 columns: ApproverName, Response, Comments
    
    
    
  • What i want to implement is :
    
    for(i=0 ; i<totalRecordsinCollection1 ; i+3)
    {
          patch(Collection2, {ApproverName:Collection1[i], Response:Collection1[i+1], Comments:Collection1[i+2]})
    
    
    
    •  Required output will be:
          ApproverName        Response           Comments
             Approver1              Approve          ok approved
             Approver2              Approve                 okay
             Approver3              Reject                     sorry
      and so on.......
       
  • Problem is  that i cant do this with ForAll opeation in powerapps. Is there any solution for this?

If I understand correctly, you want to parse

Approver1@# Approve@#ok Approved@#;Approver2@# Approve@#okay@#;Approver3@# Reject;@#sorry

into:

ApproverName        Response         Comments
Approver1           Approve          ok approved
Approver2           Approve          okay
Approver3           Reject           sorry

[Clarification: in red, I notice a semicolon--is that a typo?]

While I do have a solution that I can share on how to loop this, I don't think you'll need one if you change the way you work with the delimiters instead.

Right now, you are using a different delimiter for rows (@#) and columns (@#; ). You can use this to your advantage when splitting up data. Using AddColumns will allow you to build in the columns you want as well.

ClearCollect(Collection1,
    DropColumns(
        AddColumns(
            Split(DataCardValue5.Text,"@#;"),
        "ApproverName",Last(FirstN(Split(Result,"@#"),1)).Result,
        "Response",Last(FirstN(Split(Result,"@#"),2)).Result,
        "Comments",Last(FirstN(Split(Result,"@#"),3)).Result,
        ),
    Result
    )
)

From the inside-out, this means, "Split up the text in DataCardValue5 each time you see "@#;". That results in 3 rows:

Approver1@# Approve@#ok Approved
Approver2@# Approve@#okay
Approver3@# Reject;@#sorry

For each of the rows, add columns for ApproverName, Response, and Comments. Make the ApproverName equal to the first string that results if you were to Split up the row each time there is "@#". Make the Response the second string when split, and Comments the third string.

ex:
Approver1
Approve
ok Approved

Then to clean things up, drop the Result column that was created when you performed the original Split.

  Thankyou so much as this solution is working perfectly in my scenario. Also .. It would be very helpful if you could provide the solution for implementing For loops in collection. For example , how can I implement for loops to iterate through my collection to obtain the same result as that of using this Drop column and Add column logic ?
