JavaScript for Popup Form Stopped Working (Model Driven App)

I have a form that is supposed to popup when the record is clicked from a subgrid.  It stopped working.  Looking for feedback on my troubleshooting steps.

Visual of what's supposed to happen.

damian_green23_7-1709081578260.png

The form to open is "mia_inspectionquestions'.  It's supposed to open centered on the screen at 90%.  What's happening is that it doesn't open at all when I click on the subgrid for this or any record.

1) Confirm that popups aren't blocked from the site on the browser.

damian_green23_0-1709080986577.png

2) Review the JavaScript.

damian_green23_5-1709081246089.png

3) The table that I'm trying to open has a Name that exactly matches in the Tables that is within the Solution.

damian_green23_6-1709081352324.png

And it's the same value as the Logical name

damian_green23_0-1709082028034.png

2) Ensure the form has the JavaScript OnRecordSelect w/in the Event Library.

damian_green23_2-1709081141773.png

4) and the Event Handler is populated with the right trigger

damian_green23_3-1709081176602.png

5) Clicking into the Event Handler

So, what's the next troubleshooting step?

I can confirm that this has stopped working for us also. It actually stopped about a month ago.

The following articles no longer work and I suspect a Code Regression in one of the Dynamics 365 Service packs about 3 - 4 weeks ago broke the Pop-Up modal within subgrid functionality:

No longer working - Open sub-grid records in a modal (dialog) form using the new “Power Apps grid control” – Mastering r...
No longer working - Clicking on a Subgrid to Open a Modal Form in Dynamics 365 - Carl de Souza

Anyone else using Pop-Up Modal forms with subgrids seeing the same thing. It's very annoying.

I found that I could make it work from an Editable Grid but NOT from the Power Apps Grid Control.  So to regain the functionality, I had to lose the visual appeal on the other control.  If this gets fixed, please someone post here.

Thanks Damian,

Yeah my Grid control is a Power Apps Grid control. I will try your workaround.

Strange how it all of a sudden dropped off. Was working perfectly up until a month ago. Ours broke after one of the weekend automated patches that Microsoft does with Dynamics 365.

Hi Damian,

You are 100%. It's working in "Editable Grid" control but just not in "Power Apps Grid". That becomes a big issue for us as setting Grid Control's to Editable Grid puts us at risk of users editing fields from the Sub Grid.

Is MS Support monitoring this forum or is it best we log a ticket for this issue?

Don't think we would be the only ones who have this issue.

For the record my code matches yours however even when using the supported code from Dani Kahil it still doesn't work:

https://danikahil.com/2023/07/open-sub-grid-records-in-a-modal-dialog-form-using-the-new-power-apps-...

Anyone else noticing issues when Opening Sub-Grid records in a modal dialog using Power Apps Grid Control?

This is the service pack that I feel broke the Power App Grid control pop-up subgrid modal:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/released-versions/weekly-releases/update24013
if you notice in that article Microsoft changed some functionality with OnRecordSelect

It appears this is a known issue. Here it is:
OnRecordSelect event does not raise | Power Platform admin center (microsoft.com)

Microsoft has marked the issue as resolved however it's marked as resolved as the fix is coming in a future service pack.

Microsoft removed triggering the onRecordSelect event on the new PowerApps Grid Control this year as a "Bug fix".

Around February Microsoft received a support ticket from a customer who complained that when editing was disabled on a grid, they didn't feel that the onRecordSelect should fire the event handler that they configured to fire on selecting a record. Yes, you read that right. The customer had configured an event handler to fire onRecordSelect and reported  a bug that the event they configured was indeed firing as they had configured it..

Rather than suggesting the customer remove the function call from the Events tab on the control, Microsoft removed the functionality.

You can test if this is your issue by enabling editing on the grid and check if your event is firing.

This change was rolled out (without notice) because it was classified a "Bug Fix" and not as part of their regularly scheduled (and well documented) feature updates.

We have a current ticket open with Microsoft and they are considering putting a switch on the Control to enable/disable onRecordSelect triggering when editing is disabled.

Yes, I was confused by that as well. I learned from Microsoft that this was considered a bug fix, so it was just pushed out to everyone without notice.

Thanks MMulvina,

Very disappointing they removed this functionality as it’s a core part of the way we use the new Grid Control. You are 100% right. It does work when the Grid Control is in edit mode however this is not the way we want our grids designed. We want the new PowerApps Grid control to work with OnRecordSelect.

Microsoft please bring this functionality back. 🙏
