Retrieving individual files from SharePoint document library on PowerApps

I have a document library that holds html files. Each file is associated to one user. I have an app on power apps that I would like to retrieve individual files associated with the user that is logged into power apps. This user has a file associated to his name in the SharePoint library under "modified by". How can I go about retrieving a file in that document library to showcase on the power apps screen after hitting a button?

I am also getting a delegation issue with this:

'folder path' = "shared doc/testing/"

So far I have the following:

Set(currentUser, User());

ClearCollect(userFiles, Filter(mydoc, 'folder path' = "shared doc/testing/",  'Modified By'.DisplayName = currentUser.FullName));

Set(htmlfile, First(userfiles).Name);

and then I have the htmltext property to htmlfile.

However, I am not displaying anything, it is showing up as blank. It is saying "htmlfile" is blank.

Am I going about this the wrong way or did i miss a step with the html file.

Thanks

Hello, I have an easier way to accomplish this.  Try adding a data table into your app. It will prompt you to pick a connector, so select SharePoint, and then the library from the list options that will appear.  You'll be able to select all the various columns from your library. The important one, that will give the user a URL to click (then the file will open). Once you have the table built, filter on the current user within the Items property of the data table.

Please let me know if this helps resolve your issue.

@PowerAppsHelpCD ,

Can you please provide a screenshot of your existing (expanded) Flow that you use to create the file as well as the code (in Text) you use in Power Apps to run it.

Seems like folder path will not work for this. How can I achieve this in power automate and call that flow into the power apps application?

Hi @PowerAppsHelpCD ,

I am interested in "Why" you are trying to accomplish this? The HTMLText Control can only display a limited subset of what an HTML file can do. You can't include JavaScript.

But since you asked, this is what your Flow would look like:

MarkBandR_0-1706555496768.pngMarkBandR_1-1706555564726.png

MarkBandR_2-1706555679514.png

MarkBandR_3-1706555737390.png

Important Notes:

1) Set your Library for the "Get files )properties only) Action.

2) For the "Get files (properties only)" Action, set the Filter Query to:

Editor/EMail eq '@{triggerBody()['text_1']}'

Pay attention to how to filter on the "Modified By" User's Email address. Case is important. I think you said this was important. Also set the Top value to 1 to get back the first file found.

For the Power App, add a button and an HtmlText Control.

MarkBandR_5-1706556283377.png

Add the Power Automate Flow you created:

MarkBandR_4-1706556173541.png

For the Button OnSelect, set it to:

Set(glbHTMLText, GetHTMLFileContents.Run("/YOURDOCLIBNAME/shared doc/testing",User().Email).response);

For the test I did, this is the contents of the HTML file I used:

<html>
<head>
    <title>Simple HTML Page</title>
</head>
<body>
    <h1>Welcome to My Website</h1>

    <h2>List of Items</h2>
    <ul>
        <li>Item 1</li>
        <li>Item 2</li>
        <li>Item 3</li>
    </ul>
</body>
</html>

This is what my form looked like when I clicked the button after the contents loaded:

Hi Mark, thanks for all the help. This is a project for my work. I have another question to ask. This worked fine and I am grateful for your help. However, we have now moved away from a document library to a sharepoint list where the html is being saved under main contents and my title is the user that created that file. Could you please provide a way to make a new power automate flow to get items from that list and return it to the powerapps? I've tried to use lookup but it is only working intermittently for me.

Hi @PowerAppsHelpCD

For additional questions once the original question has been answered you should be posted in a new question. You could just tag me in the question.

I looked at this again with the new way you are implementing things. I think the problem you are seeing where it works intermittently is due to when the Power App refreshes the data.

If (for example) you just had an HTML Control with the HTMLText set to:

LookUp('Your HTML List',Title=User().Email,PersonHTML)

The app is only going to lookup the field once. If you go an make some changes in the SharePoint list to the HTML field, you might not see it until the app refreshes the data for that list.

What you might want to do instead is use a global variable to get this field. Something like:

Set(glbUserHTML,LookUp('Your HTML List',Title=User().Email,PersonHTML));

And set the HTMLText Control's HTMLText property to glbUserHTML.

Put the code to Set the variable glbUserHTML is the OnVisible of the Form or in the Button OnClick that loads the form where you have your control. This will insure the LookUp occurs explicitly when you want it to.
