Send Email requirements

I've been unsuccessful in sending email since they were just "logic flows."

I need to know what I'm doing wrong. I want to know how others are successful.

Here are my steps:

1. Create a flow > Create from blank
2. When a control is seleted > Office 365 - Send email
3. To: Ask in Power Apps
4. Subject: Ask in Power Apps
5. Body: Ask in Power Apps

In Power Apps,

1. Create three Input TextBoxes: TextInput1, TextInput2, TextInput3
2. Create a Button with OnSelect property:
   

   flow.Run(TextInput1.Text, TextInput2.Text, TextInput3.Text)

When I test it out, I receive a Successful entry and a Running entry in the flow's log. The Running entry becomes Failure.

What is everyone doing to get this working?

Are you using Office 365, Outlook.com, Mail, etc.?

What level of Enterprise servicing are you using? E3? E5?

I've been in communication with PG, but I want to see if someone on these forums has an answer.

Hi Mr-Dang,

our team just tried this out with the version of PowerApps in the store in our prod environment and did not run into any issues.

Did you set the value of the first TextInput box to a valid email address?

Without this, you will getting a failure in the log for my flow, but if we put my own email as the destination address, I both receive the email and see a success in the log history.

If you still have an issue, please send us more detail about the error that you receive, Screenshot, and flow id.

Hi,

I read on another thread that recipients of your emails from O365 might have to be in your contacts list. 

I have not tested this out yet. I will follow up on this.

In the mean time, the good news is that "Mail" works fine for me. It just can't customize the sender name and return email address.

Are there any intentions to improve the "Mail" flow to allow you to change the sender name and address?

Hi Mr-dang,

I created a flow “when a control is selected, send email with Office 365”.  Of course, before I created the flow to send email with Office 365, I needed to create a connection with Office 365 outlook and which will become the default sender. In the flow, “To”, “Subject”, “Body” were all set to “Ask in PowerApps”. Then I created an App, added there Textinput boxes and one button. The button’s Onselect property was set to the same with you. When the button was clicked, an email was sent to the mailbox which I filled in the first TextInput box. It worked well.

Then I modified the flow. In the flow, I filled the “From” and “CC” box with two email address which were different from the default sender. However, it didn’t work. Then I changed the email address of the “From” box to the default sender, it worked.

So, it seems that currently we may not be able to change the sender name and address of the “Send Mail” flow. And now, flow is being developed and improved, you could also vote your idea to the “Flow Ideas”, here is the link:

Thanks Mabel & Mr Dang for showing us the step and figure out the issue.

This limitation is on the Office 365 connector. if we can change the sender email, it could lead to potential security concern.

"e.g imagine if everyone can send email using your email address as a sender"

Feel free to vote your idea to "flow ideas" as sugested by Mabel.

The From/Sender can be changed in certain cases where the user has the necessary permission in Office 365 mail settings.  Quoting the Outlook API doc: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/office365/api/complex-types-for-mail-contacts-calendar#RESTA...

Setting the From and Sender properties

When a message is being composed, in most cases, the From and Sender properties represent the same signed-in user, unless either is updated as described in the following scenarios:

• The From property can be changed if the Exchange administrator has assigned SendAs rights of the mailbox to some other users. The administrator can do this by selecting Mailbox Permissions of the mailbox owner in the Azure Management Portal, or by using the Exchange Admin Center or aWindows PowerShell Add-ADPermission cmdlet. Then, you can programmatically set the Fromproperty to one of these users who have SendAs rights for that mailbox.

• The Sender property can be changed if the mailbox owner has delegated one or more users to be able to send messages from that mailbox. The mailbox owner can delegate in Outlook. When a delegate sends a message on behalf of the mailbox owner, the Sender property is set to the delegate’s account, and the From property remains as the mailbox owner. Programmatically, you can set the Sender property to a user who has got delegate right for that mailbox.
